The present situation created by the havoc of Covid-19 has forced us to remain within the confinements of our homes. The deadly virus has claimed so many lives recently, that even the thought of sending children out to play, seems dangerous. Every day activities have been affected. Working from home has become the new normal. Schools have been asked to remain shut for the safety of students. Also, the education sector seems to be the last sector to begin regular operations. Thanks to Information & Technology, most schools have adopted eLearning methodologies, leaving no stone unturned in providing quality education. The transition from classroom environment to online environment has been better than expected. Having said so, Olympiad examinations have also embraced the new normal situation of online exams.

Indian Talent Olympiad (ITO), a well-known player in the field of Olympiad examinations is probably one of the first organization to conduct online Olympiad exams in India. Today’s parents may not be able to spend as much quality time as they wish, with their children. Many full-time working mothers, and fathers often feel guilty of not passing much time with their child. Although, many of us are working from home, it becomes a challenge to spend quality time with children. Many parents feel, their kids must make the most of this lockdown period and take part in productive activities. Therefore, the team of Indian Talent Olympiad developed a convenient methodology of allowing students to take exams from Mobile phones. Thus, this ensures students are well engaged in constructive endeavors during the lockdown period, while their parents are busy.

Internet has proved to be a boon to us time and again. The online test series is a transparent system that tests students’ knowledge on various topics. Subjects for which students can attempt the test are International Science Olympiad (ISO), International Maths Olympiad (IMO), English International Olympiad (EIO), General Knowledge International Olympiad (GKIO), International Drawing Olympiad (IDO), and National Essay Olympiad (NESO).  The key highlights of the test include:

  • Audio Record – Records audio conversation when the child is attempting the exam
  • Image Capture – Captures live images while the child is solving questions
  • Video Record – Records video to maintain transparency at optimum levels
  • Eye ball Recognition – Ensures that the child enrolled for the exam is the one attempting it and there is nobody in place of the child
  • Multi Browser Detection – It is compatible with all browsers

The benefit of attempting online exam, is that students can take part in the same individually. Earlier, the written exam had made it mandatory only for schools to register, and students were allowed to attempt these exams only through their respective schools. However, today, ITO allows individual registration with minimum charges. This is the best way to keep students engaged, hereby increasing their knowledge. The online exams ensure 100% transparency. As per the table above, students can opt for online tests any time between 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  The questions asked in the exam are shuffled and interchanged for each slot. This ensures there is 100% transparency, and allows no scope of sharing information with one another. Students are given 25 minutes to attempt the online Olympiad test of 30 questions. All questions are multiple-choice in nature. Students are supposed to find the right answer after thorough analysis of the question.

The preparation pattern followed by Indian Talent Olympiad ensures comprehensive practice throughout the year. Previously, final exams were conducted twice in a year in two different levels. Those clearing the first level, were promoted to the second level. However, looking at the present situation, ITO has opted for a single examination scheme, that can be given in two slots. Thus, there will be only one round of exam on which students’ capabilities will be judged. Students can opt to attempt these exams in December 2020 or in February 2020. The online practice tests allow them to practice different questions at regular intervals. Full length model papers assess students’ preparation for the exams. Logical reasoning questions are a part and parcel of Olympiad exams. The online tests ensure students are exposed to such questions as well.

The online platform allows instant evaluation. Students can check their scores instantly after attempting the exam. There is a progress notification section that sends messages to parents about their ward’s progress. The questions are crafted in a way that ensures brain exercises, and fun activities to explore the topic. Students often love the content as it gives them a lot of opportunity to discover more about concepts taught in class. It is said that we need to look for opportunities when we have time. This is the best time to convert the lockdown period to do something productive. Let us utilize the this time in learning and engaging ourselves in building our child’s future.
